Obituary for Leroy Steven Bosby Jr,

Leroy Steven Bosby, Jr. was a native of Mobile, Alabama and a resident of Avondale, Louisiana. He was the second child of Leroy and Anna Mary Tate Bosby, Sr. He was born on January 14, 1953. Leroy exchanged this earthly life for his heavenly home on Wednesday, October 11, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Diane Bosby Payne.

Leroy was educated in the Mobile County Public School System. He attended Caldwell Elementary, Paul L. Dunbar Junior High and Central High School where he was a member of the “130 Mighty Marching Wildcats.” He later became a member of the “E.B. Coleman’s Big Band.”, “Lewis Brothers Band” and “Excelsior Band.”

Leroy enlisted in the United States Navy in 1973 and served during the Vietnam War time. He received an honorable discharge in 1977. After leaving the Navy, Leroy started working at American Cyanamid which later became Cornerstone Chemical Company in Waggaman, LA . Leroy retired after forty-one years of service to Cornerstone Chemical in January 2018. Leroy’s affiliations included USW Local-13-477 (38 years), AFM Local 777 (31 years), JEN (active member), VFW Post 8973 (Life Member) and the American Legion.

Although he lived in Avondale, LA, he was a faithful member of Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church until his health declined. Leroy had a love for his family embracing not only his immediate family but also his extended family. He saw their needs and provided guidance and support. Leroy enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and classmates. Leroy loved traveling and playing his trumpets.

Remembering him for his sense of humor, solid work ethic, his love for family and friends is his loving wife of more than fifteen years, Shawn Bosby; children: Ashley Bosby, Brandon Asberry and Brittany Asberry; grandchildren: K' liyah Morgan, Aubrey Green and Armani James. He is also survived by two sisters: Mary Bosby Davis and Sheila Bosby Little; his extended family includes brothers and sisters: Roslyn Little, Donna Echols, Tina (Vaughn) Aubert, Ann Gail (David) Traylor, Tammy (Jeff) Hart, Ricky, Michael, Craig (Anita), Steven (Rona) and Keith (Kimberly) Duronsolet; brother-in-law, Sim Payne; mother-in-law, Evelyn Calhoun Brown; nieces: Nikita Davis and Veishawn Payne; nephews: Brian (Donis) Davis and Rashaan Little; godchildren: Tameka Little, Jarvis Dennison and Ashton Tricksey; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
