Obituary for Linda Smith

Ms. Linda Marcia Smith, 62 years old, peacefully departed this life on Thursday, April 4, 2019, surrounded by her children, and family members at Mobile Infirmary, after a valiant fight with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family, friends, and many supporters helped her to fight the disease for nearly thirty years. Yet even throughout her own struggle with MS, she was still a woman of boundless energy and a strong sense of family who believed intensely in the importance of faith, education, and love.
Linda was born on September 22, 1956 in Mobile, Alabama to Ercell and Geneva Smith Jr., the oldest of four children. Linda accepted Christ at an early age and worshiped and fellowshipped at Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church from a child until her health would no longer allow her to attend.
Linda was a 1974 graduate of Lillie B.Williamson High School, in the Maysville community. Linda also attended the University of South Alabama and Bishop State Community College.
For 36 years Linda raised and blessed her four children. Possessing a true servant’s heart, Linda faithfully cared for her children through enforcing discipline, education, and responsibility. A woman of faith and the heart of her family, Linda shaped their spirituality by her tireless Christian example and walk with Christ. While at times her path seemed reminiscent to Job, her children were able to learn life virtues from her words but also by simply being by her bedside. With a real zest for life until the end, Linda loved her children and would do anything and everything to celebrate them individually, but equally, and cherished her friends and family.
Known for her beauty, faith, intelligence, kindness, vibrance and wisdom, some may be surprised to learn that she was also soft-spoken. Yet even as a child, she possessed a contagious smile and an entertaining sense of humor. Throughout her life, Linda maintained a sweet and simple, yet elegant demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many. Even now, many are changed by bearing witness of her constant nurturing love and faith. Her signature gift of joy, even while suffering through illness, shown through her constant smiling, laughter, and joking spirit, will never be forgotten. Linda was, and is, the bond that has strengthened her family, friends, and all those who have come to know her.
Linda leaves to cherish her memory her mother Mrs. Geneva Smith, four loving children; Damien (Qiana) Smith of Houston, TX; Myra Smith of Mobile, AL; Brittany Smith of Huntsville, AL and Demetrius Smith of Mobile, AL; two sisters, Bridgette (Raymond) Stallworth of Mobile, AL; Mia Smith of Mobile, AL; and one brother, Shedrick Smith of New Orleans, LA; 3 grandchildren Chanel Rosalynn, Dominic Xavier, and Brenan Rashad; one special cousin, Lager Allen and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
The family would like to extend their warmest gratitude and thanks to the staff of The Mobile Infirmary Medical Center MICU and 4NW units and Ashland Place Health and Rehabilitation. Also, special thanks to Doctors of Pulmonary Associates, Alabama Medical Group and the IMC Hospitalists group for the care provided to Linda throughout the duration of her illness and final days.
