Obituary for Lorraine Mingo (Moore)

Sister Lorraine Moore Mingo
February 24, 1927 – July 21, 2019

Sis. Lorraine Moore Mingo was born to the union of the late James and Flora Moore, February 24,1927, in Birmingham, AL. She departed this life to be with her heavenly Father on July 21, 2019, at the age of 92. She confessed Christ at an early age and joined the Antioch Baptist Church in Birmingham, AL. She was very active as a child and young adult in many areas of the church including the choir.
Upon graduating high school, Lorraine met and married the love of her life, the late J.C. Mingo, Sr. The young couple relocated to Mobile, AL. After moving to Mobile, she united with the St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. T.J. Davis, other Pastors and presently under the leadership of Rev. Cleveland McFarland, Jr. Sis. Mingo was a member of St. Peter for over 65 years where she served in many ministries and capacities of the church. She was a member of the Pastor’s Aide Ministry, served on numerous annual days and was also a former member of the choir.
She worked 21 years at the Dauphin Way United Methodist Child Development Center, as a day care worker, caring for infants and toddlers. She was dearly loved by all of the children that she was affiliated with as well as her co-workers. She was affectionately known to many as Me-Mo.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, J.C, Mingo, Sr.; loving daughter, Shelia M. Populus; son in-law, Leanord Populus; sisters, Victoria Moore, Annie Jean Kennedy, Alfreida Beverly and Betty Nalls; brothers, Oliver Moore, Arthur Moore and Willie James Moore.
She leaves to cherish her memories one loving and devoted son: J.C.Mingo, Jr.; four loving and devoted daughters: Christine M. (Calvin) Lynch, Barbara M. (Willie) Washington, Vickie M. (Ronald) Foster and Dr. Dedra M.(Karl) Reed, all of Mobile AL; 6 devoted grandchildren: Wayne (Tracy) Washington, Sr., Warren (Deidra) Washington, Sr., Kourtney Reed, Leanord and Shelby Populus, all of Mobile AL; Shaun (Courtney) Kyles, of Fairburn GA., 7 devoted great-grandchildren: Warren Jr., Wayne Jr., Wade, Khaden and Aubrey Washington all of Mobile, AL; Shaun Jr. and Skylar Kyles of Fairburn, GA.; 2 loving sisters in law; ( very devoted) Adell Mingo, Mobile AL.; Lucy Mingo, Boykin, AL; 1 loving brother in law: Dove (Thelma) Mingo, Mobile AL.; devoted nephews: Joe Mingo, Ollie Mingo, both of Mobile, Al., William (Joyce) Beverly, Rodney ( Josette) Beverly, both of Linden, N.C., Rev.
