Luther Curtis, Jr.
1949 – 2023

“To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.”

Luther Curtis, Jr. was born on June 9, 1949, in Pushmataha, AL, to the late Luther Curtis, Sr. and Rannie Ruffin Rodgers. Luther gave his life to Christ at an early age at his family’s church (Gilfield Missionary Baptist Church) in Lisman, AL. On March 2, 2023, Luther departed his earthly life and reunited with the Lord. Preceding him in death were his parents, Luther Curtis, Sr., and Rannie Ruffin Rodgers; his sisters, Bertha Curtis Daniel, Lillie Curtis, Minnie Curtis Rodgers, Katherine Curtis Anderson, Maxine Curtis; and his brother Willis Curtis.

Luther was a long-time resident of Chicago, IL, where he met and married his love, Janet Johnson. Through their union they had three children Tabitha, Tamiko, and Jarrett. He was a great provider and ultimate protector of his family. He always maintained a cool demeanor, believed in work life balance and enjoying life to the fullest. Luther began his work career as a professional butcher for many years. He was later employed at Marshall High School where he worked in various capacities.

Luther was an avid softball player, which led him to joining a semi-professional league in Chicago. Staying active and healthy was a priority which led him to bodybuilding, biking and dancing. He was one of the best steppers to hit the dance floor, dressed to impress. He had a passion for cars and always had a spotless ride, he was also an amazing cook.

Luther served as a member of The Legends, a community organization giving back to the neighborhood. He cherished strong bonds with long-time friends like Lucky and other members of The Legends. He was also a respected member of the Freemason. This brotherhood helped to create a path to him becoming a better man for himself, his family, community, and friends.

He later moved to Mobile, Al. to be close to other family and loved ones. Where he lived until, he departed this life. We will always remember him by his favorite saying; “Love you for life.”

He leaves to cherish his memories his beloved three children, Tabitha McQueen of Washington, DC, Tamiko Curtis (Danielle Agee) of Chicago, IL and Jarrett Curtis of Chicago, IL; five grandchildren, JeQuan Flynn, Diamond Flynn, Davion Flynn, D'Angelo Flynn and Tamia Agee; three great-grandchildren, Messiah Flynn, Kehlani Flynn and Matteo Flynn; three siblings, Fannie Pearl Curtis of Detroit, MI, Inez Curtis Harris of Mobile, AL and Lizzie Gennet Curtis of Detroit, MI; and a host of, nieces, nephews, cousins, close relatives and friends.
