Obituary for Mabel L. Thomas (Hall)

Mabel Lucille Hall Thomas was born July 16, 1926 in Brewton, Alabama to Henry C. & Mattie R. Hall.

Mabel graduated from Southern Normal High School. While attending Southern Normal she received a full scholarship to Hope College in Holland, Michigan turning it down to marry her love, William H. Thomas. In 1952, Mabel began working in Labor and Delivery at D W McMillian Hospital, Brewton, Alabama, where she served for over 50 fruitful years. She earned her licensed practical nursing (LPN) diploma at Ed E. Reid Technical College, Evergreen, Alabama.

Mabel was a faithful and longtime member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, Brewton, Alabama. While at St. Mark she served as Missions President and Matrons Counselor. Mabel was, also, actively involved with the Evergreen District Association, Eastern Star, and NAACP until relocating to Mobile, Alabama to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Lynnetta and Winston Kidd. In 2012, Mabel became a member of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church
where she served with the Sunday School Department.

She is proceeded in death by her parents Henry C. & Mattie R. Hall, her husband William H. Thomas, brothers Rev. Joe Calhoun, Rev. William Calhoun, Rollie Calhoun, James Calhoun, Henry C. Hall, Jr. and sisters Addie Calhoun and Rose Marie Hall Lewis.

Mabel is survived by - Children: Sara Alexander (Floyd), Nashville, Tennessee, Lynnetta Kidd (Winston), Eight Mile, Alabama, William Thomas (Alesia), Castleberry, Alabama, Phillip Thomas (Valerie), Bowie, Maryland, and Hiriam Thomas, Mobile, Alabama, 19 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, 15 great great grandchildren, a host of cousins, nieces and nephews and Samuel Lewis, brother-in-law, Bowie, Maryland, and friends.
