Obituary for Marjorie Grace Dillard (Youngblood)

Marjorie Grace Dillard (Youngblood) was born on April 19, 1930 in Boston, Massachusetts. She
was the oldest child of William Warren and Gladys Youngblood. Siblings Billy, Jackie, and Pegi,
followed. After graduating from Practical Arts High School in 1948, she enrolled in Oberlin
College and majored in musical education. While attending Oberlin College, she was initiated
into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in 1951. After graduating from Oberlin in 1952, she gained
employment at Tuskegee Institute as a junior choir director where she met Herbert Dillard.
They married and had two sons: Warren and Noel. After moving to Mobile, AL, she started
working for Little Realty. She eventually became secretary for then President Sanford D. Bishop
at Alabama State Junior College in 1960, later to be named Bishop State Community College.
After working for President Bishop, she later was appointed registrar of the college and retired
from that job in 1992. She spent the last 30 years in real estate owning several homes, as well
as becoming a member of the board for Mobile Community Action, working at USA Women’s
and Children’s Hospital in the volunteer services department, participating as an active member
of the Mobile Public Library, and being an active member in the Mobile Alumni Chapter of Delta
Sigma Theta, Inc.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William Warren and Gladys Youngblood; brothers Billy
and Jackie Youngblood; and son Noel C. Dillard. She leaves behind her devoted son Warren X.
(Beverly) Dillard of Mobile, AL; grandson Christopher Noel (Ireyan) Wooten of Tuscaloosa, AL;
great-grandsons Carter and Caiden Wooten of Tuscaloosa, AL; sister Pegi Willis of Boston, MA;
granddaughters Victoria Valree of Mobile, AL, and Dorsey Valree of Miami, FL; the sorors of
Delta Sigma Theta, Inc.; nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.
