Obituary for Mary Della Funderburk

Mrs. Mary Della Funderburk, a native of Prichard, Alabama, was born November 25, 1937, to the union of James Herbert Wallace Sr. and Gladys Wallace.

She confessed Christ at an early age. As an adult she was a member of St. John AOH Church of God for many years and later returned to her childhood church, St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church. Mary was a dedicated member at both churches where she served on the Matron Board, Mother Board, and Usher Board. She also served faithfully in the church choir.

Mary was a proud 1956 graduate of Central High School and earned a degree in Tailoring and Alterations from Bishop State Community College in 1994 were she made the President and Dean’s list. She had a passion for sewing and was known for her work on the costume trains for the Mobile Mardi Gras Association’s Kings and Queens. She volunteered with Ladies on a Mission and with Wiregrass Hospice.

She gained her heavenly wings on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, surrounded by family and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents James Herbert Wallace Sr. and Gladys and John Prince Sr., her husband of 26 years, George Funderburk, and her son Barney R. Lott.

Memories of her love will always be remembered and cherished by her six siblings: Flora (late John) Wilkerson, John (late Eloise) Prince, Patricia (late Clyde) Roland, Larry (Harriet) Prince, Michael (Claudette) Prince, Angela (Lamar) Williams; six children: Edwin Lott (late Nina Cooper), Leslie Lott, Gladys Cooks, Lyndora Lott, Mary N. Funderburk, and Javana (Warren) Law Jr.; ten grandchildren: Antoine (Kenyetta)Lott, Vernita (Marcus) Rigsby, Melodie (Michael Funches) Lott, Brittany Elkins, Daffney (Martez)Towner, Danielle (Jason) Smith, Warren Law III, Zachary Law, Hailey Funderburk, LaKethia Cooper; eighteen great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews; and two devoted friends: Mrs. Mary Shepard and Ms. Barbara Reid.
