On March 23, 2021 the Angel of God whispered:
“Maureen, come now and take your rest.”
Mrs. Maureen Therese Jackson peacefully departed this life on March 23, 2021 surrounded by her husband and daughters at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center in Mobile, AL.
Maureen was born on May 19, 1960 in Mobile, AL to Gertrude Francis Moore, the youngest of four children. Maureen accepted Christ at an early age and her spiritual journey ultimately led her to worship and fellowship at New Life Christian Fellowship in Mobile, AL.
Maureen’s childhood was molded by an unwavering support system of family that poured an insurmountable amount of family tradition and love into her spirit. She often spoke and told stories of memories of “Down the Bay”, St. Peter Claver and Warren Street where she developed long lasting relationships and friendships that she held dear to her heart.
Maureen was a 1978 graduate of W.P. Davidson High School in Mobile, AL and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of South Alabama in 1982. While in attendance at the University of South Alabama, Maureen was an active member of the Iota Nu Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Maureen went on to serve as a Special Education teacher for 25 years at Alba High School of Bayou La Batre, AL ,Whitley Elementary School in Prichard, AL and Pointe Academy in Mobile, AL.
On April 16, 1983 Maureen married her high school sweetheart and man who would serve as her lifelong companion and best Friend Leon Jackson. From their union blossomed a family of four daughters, three son in laws and seven grandchildren. As a woman of faith and heart for her family, Maureen shaped their spirituality by her tireless Christian example and walk for Christ along with her selfless and giving spirit. Maureen was, and is, the bond that has strengthened her family, friends, and all who have come to know her.
Maureen was preceded in death by her mother, Gertrude Francis Moore, aunts Clarietta Norris of Birmingham, AL, Cassandra Palmer of Mobile, AL, Blanche Moore of Mobile, AL, Mary Mitchum of Mobile, AL; uncles Vernon Moore of Detroit, MI, John W. Moore of Mobile, AL, and Deacon Alexander Moore of Mobile, AL.
Maureen leaves to cherish her memory her loving and devoted husband of 37 years, Leon Jackson, four loving children: Brittney (Damion) Word of Atlanta, GA, Ashley (Eric) Jackson of Mobile, AL, Ariel (Michael) Powe of Daphne, AL and Brianna Jackson of Mobile, AL; one devoted brother, Kevin (Leslie) Moore of Mobile, AL; two devoted sisters, Karen (Terry) White of Grand Bay, AL and Mary (Steve) Watkins of Prichard, AL; seven grandchildren: Melvin Payne, Jr., Aidyn Jackson-Braggs, Ava Word, Emari Jackson-Braggs, Braylon Dixon, Khaleesi Powe and Jackson Word; five godchildren, Christopher Ashford of Atlanta, GA, Miya Moore Johnson of Mobile, AL, Bradley White of Mobile, AL, Bryce Huff of Mobile, AL and Sophia Stallworth of Mobile, AL; one devoted Aunt Cassie Moore, and a host of devoted sisters in law, brother in law, nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends.
