Obituary for Michael Gregory Alexander

Ephesians 1:7 "In Him, we have redemption, through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace." Michael Gregory Alexander Sr., fondly known as TK, departed his earthly body on April 6, 2024, to join the father on what would have been his mother’s 90th birthday. His passing came approximately a week after we celebrated the resurrection of Christ. His soul gained the ultimate renewal and transformation, giving him peace and rest after years of affliction with a chronic disease.

In death, we have come to appreciate that every decision in his life was made through a lens of love and sacrifice, aligned with the Catholic teachings he was raised in. One of five children born to Dave and Mary Alexander, Michael was remembered as a kind child, a loving older brother, and an impressionable younger brother, eager to follow the path of his brother Dave. Described as athletic, kind, and charismatic, with a beautiful and brilliant mind, Michael’s kind spirit and charming demeanor often gave him the freedom to do things his way. Beloved for his profound empathy and care, he left a lasting impression on all who knew him, most notably his sister-in-law who regarded him as the most caring and empathetic person she had ever met. His compassionate spirit touched many lives. As an avid reader, we know now that his way was always well-informed and authentically motivated.

Michael’s life was enriched by his experiences and familial ties. He met the love of his life, Hattie, in the 7th grade at St. James Catholic School. He swept her off her feet to the beat of Tyrone Davis' "Turn Back the Hands of Time." Michael went on to attend McGill-Toolen High School, where he was a decorated baseball player and scholar. He married Hattie, had three children, served in the Navy for four years, and earned an associate degree from Faulkner College. Before his transition to California, he worked for over a decade at Scott Paper Company.

After legally parting ways with Hattie, Michael made the ultimate sacrifice as a parent and moved to California, where he spent the remainder of his life. This allowed his children to grow into a doctor, a principal, an educator, and entrepreneurs, beyond the shadow of his illness. He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Alexander, and his sister, Michelle Alexander. He is survived by his father, Dave Alexander Jr.; children Kiyoko (Michael) Augustus, Michael (Asten) Alexander, and Walkitria (Hassan) Smith; siblings Dave (Veronica) Alexander III, Yolanda (Len) Bendolph, and Allison Finney; the love of his life, Hattie Alexander; his devoted partner and caregiver, Pam Williams; friend Jeff Porter; eight grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
