Obituary

Michael C. Hoffman, M.D. 72, of Mobile, Alabama, passed away on June 22, 2019. Michael was a loving husband, father, uncle, and grandfather, who enjoyed fishing, boating, and spending time with those he loved. He was also actively involved in two masking societies in Mobile.

Michael was born in New York City on March 9, 1947. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University and attended medical school and residency at University of Maryland. He practiced otolaryngology in Glen Ellyn, Illinois; Mobile, Alabama and Foley, Alabama. He was on staff of Mobile Infirmary Medical Center.

Michael is survived by his wife of 21 years, Janet Hoffman, M.D., daughters Amy Hoffman Dator (Stephen), Cara Hoffman Runowski (William), and Jennifer Hoffman, stepson Peter P. Gaddy III (Lauren) and nephew Nicholas Lawkis (Kimberly); grandchildren Grant, Kelsa and Jane Dator, Kaia and Evelyn Runowski, Adeline and Cora Gaddy, and Jack Lawkis. Michael is preceeded in death by his father, Arthur Hoffman, mother, Julia Hoffman (Cherepanya) and sister Rebecca Hoffman.

The family will receive visitors at St. Ignatius Church Marian Center, 3704 Springhill Avenue on Monday, July 8, 2019 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. A private mass and interment will take place at a later time.

As Michael participated in Cleft Palate Clinic in Illinois and at University of South Alabama Women’s and Children’s Hospital, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be given to America Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association in his memory.
