Obituary for Ophelia H. Saunders (Hunt)

Ophelia “Madear Saunders was born February 23, 1926 in Mason Tennessee to the late Ed and
Rosa Bell Hunt. She transitioned at home on October 17, 2022 at the Blessed age of 96. She
was preceded in death by he (Sister) Bay Hunt, (Brother) James Hunt, (Daughters) Frances R.
Cannon and Gail Rambert, (Sons) Christopher Cannon and Edward Allen Cannon. She
transitioned her earthly life and gained her wings for her spiritual life.
She leaves to cherish her life and love her sons Jonathan Hunt and Stevie Cannon, daughter
Stephanie Lett, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great, great grandchildren. She
also leaves to cherish her friends, neighbor and spiritual family.
She married Allen Cannon Jr. on August 30, 1946, she and Allen began their family. Allen
worked at the Army Depot in Memphis Tennessee and was later transferred to Mobile Alabama
and the family continued to grow. 1965 they decided to divorce but she loved Mobile so much
and she thought Mobile was a great place to raise her children. So, she resided in Mobile.
She later remarried and began to work for the Mobile County School Board and later retired.
After many years of retirement she decided to get involved with helping the senior citizens, she
then became a Senior Companion which was a volunteer job, that was one of many proud
moments. Later she yearned to go back home to Tennessee, where she got her beginnings.
So, she moved back to Mason Tn. where reconnected with her family, friends and made new
families, with her friends, neighbors and Church members. She became a member of Greenleaf
Community Church in Mason, TN under Pastorship of L.C. McBride. She served on the Mother
Board at Greenleaf Community Church,
“Madear”, Ophelia, Ms. Saunders, “Mashane”, Mother Saunders, Ms. Ophelia, Granny,
Grandma, Mother, Momma, Sister Saunders, no matter how you addressed her, if you came in
contact with her you know she left a positive impression and a deep imprint in your Heart.
Her Love, her smile, her laugher, her Spirit, her laughter, her Joy, her energy and her Wisdom
will be remembered.
You are and will be truly missed as we carry on the journey called Life
