Obituary for Paulette M. Lewis

Paulette M. Lewis, a native Mobilian, born on November 30, 1945 to Albert Merrick and Mollie Logan, transitioned from this earthy life to eternal life to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 8, 2018. As a beloved wife and mother, she loved God and her family.

Paulette was a 1964 graduate of Central High School. She attended Alabama State Branch College where she studied interior design. During her professional career, she taught at Cedar Grove Academy, worked as retail sales associate at Montgomery Ward Department Store, and was a material specialist at Doctors Hospital. Paulette retired as distribution manager at USA Knollwood Hospital. After retiring, she enjoyed traveling with her husband, reading and writing by the pond, and sharing her testimony. As an author, she released her book, “He Kept Me,” in 2015, where she proclaimed God’s healing power. As a speaker, she shared her journey to encourage others to pray fervently, stand on the Word of God and believe that He is faithful.

Paulette was baptized at the age of 12 and as an adult rededicated her life to Christ. Paulette intimately sought after God daily through her early morning devotion and journaling. She eagerly looked for opportunities to share the goodness of the Lord. Every week, Paulette loved to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with elementary students by serving as a Good News Club Teacher with Child Evangelism Fellowship. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church of Cottage Hill where she faithfully served as Youth Director, Youth Sunday School Teacher, Away-from-Home Ministry Director, Prayer Warrior, a member of the Usher Board, and Women’s Ministry. She often offered her sewing talent to create costumes for church plays and to make handkerchiefs for special events and bereaved families. During her life, she exemplified a devoted church member, a giver of talent, a student of the Word of God, a worshiper, one who prays and believes, and a faithful servant.

In her own words…
“When I decided to follow Jesus, to trust Him with my whole heart, His Amazing Grace coupled with Mercy escorted me to salvation. The Amazing Grace that was showered on me and mine is to be shared with others so that they might see God’s Glory and have hope for their situation. Knowing that, He is not a respecter of persons and will do the same for them.”

Paulette was preceded in death by her mother, Mollie Thomas; father, Albert Merrick; sister, Dorena Tinsley; and son, Robert F. Lewis II. She leaves to cherish her memories, a loving and devoted husband of 52 years, Robert F. Lewis, Sr.; one son, Orin D.
