Peggy “Penny” Elaine Pettway, the life of every party and a die-hard fan of America’s team “The Dallas Cowboys” and the best college football team on the planet “Alabama Crimson Tide”, died on September 12, 2018 in Mobile, Alabama.
Penny busted out (was born) kicking and screaming at Mobile General Hospital in Mobile, Alabama on November 20, 1963. She attended Leinkauf Elementary School, Dunbar Middle School and Murphy High School. Of seven children, she was number six.
Penny was preceded in death by her favorite person in the world, her father Atmore Pettway, Sr. 2016.; mother Maggie 2016, sister Mildred 2016 and sister-in-law, Cynt 2013. She is survived by her two children Jimmy and Samierya; three grandchildren Fantasia, Nyla and Shylyn; three sisters Betty, Deb and Di; two brothers Atmore “Junior” and Timmy; six nieces Lexis, Nikki, PooPoo, Tinester, Priscilla and Toshia; four nephews Ronald, Joey, Richard, and Akil; ex-husband Sam; special friend “JB;” and many, many other loving friends.
Always one to “ask for forgiveness” rather than permission, Penny lived her life on her own terms and partied like it was 1999 – every day of her life! Her house on Elmira Street was known as the “Party House.” Everyone was welcome to join her famous front-yard cookouts and enjoy her mouth-watering BBQ and deep-fried turkey.
Penny couldn’t sing a lick but she loved music and old school bands and singers such as Frankie Beverly and Maze, The Gap Band, Charlie Wilson, Earth Wind & Fire, KC & JoJo and Gerald Levert – just to name a few. She loved to see them live in concert and had a special knack for getting back stage and meeting (sometimes hanging out with) her favorite band members. For example, she personally met and/or received autographs from Gerald Levert, KC & JoJo and Jesse Powell.
Things on earth won’t ever be the same without Penny, but we know she’s in heaven jammin with St. Peter, partying with the Angels and watching America’s team through the open roof in AT&T Stadium. ”How ‘bout dem Cowboys?”
