Brother Percy Nelson Smith, Sr. was born December 5, 1948 in Orriville, Alabama and later moved to Mobile, Alabama and became a 1968 graduate of Toulminville High School, there he was known for his football skills.
He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour and united with Amity Missionary Baptist Church. He was employed as an operator at Smith Bakery and he later retired after 35 years of service.
He loved sitting and hanging out on his front porch with his wife and brothers and watching the people and cars as they passed. He was known as “Toot” and “The Mayor” of Good Street AKA “The Park.” He loved people and he loved his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Deacon & Sister Willie Murphy (Willie Lee) Smith; his sister and brother-in-law: Annie Bell (John Sr.) James; his brother: Willie M. Smith, Jr. and his son: Percy N. Smith, Jr.
The Lord saw that he was getting tired and had done fought a long good fight and his body needed a rest, so the Lord disburst his army of angels down from Heaven on Monday, August 6, 2018 to give Percy his final rest.
He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife: Doldlan Smith; 3 devoted children: Percy Bryant of Buffalo, New York and Etanuel Smith and Anthony Smith of Mobile, Alabama; 3 grandchildren: Pershay Bryant and Percy Bryant, Jr. of Buffalo New York and Kameron Brown of Mobile, Alabama; 4 devoted brothers: Ceasar Sr., Jimmie, Odell, and James Smith, Sr. all of Mobile, Alabama; 1 loving sister: Jacquelyn White of Mobile, Alabama; 2 sisters-in-law: Yvonne Smith and Sharon Smith of Mobile, Alabama; one uncle: Sim Smith of Daphne, Alabama; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
His remains will lie in state on Friday, August 10, 2018 from 1-8pm at Small’s Mortuary, Mobile, Alabama.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018 from 9am until the 11am “Celebration Of Life” service at Amity Missionary Baptist Church, 2451 St. Stephens Road, Mobile, Alabama. Interment will follow in Whispering Pines Cemetery, Eight Mile, Alabama.
