Obituary for Raymond Phillips

Deacon Raymond Phillips was born in Saint Stephens, Alabama on May 15, 1949 to the late Clarence Phillips and the late Estella Bowman Phillips. He was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 9, 2021.
Raymond graduated from Prestwick High School. After graduating from high school, he moved to Cleveland, OH and worked as a lawn technician at Phillips & Sons Lawn Care & Landscaping Service.
On July 14, 1990, he married Carolyn Jackson Phillips and through this union Sister Phillips gained a sweet daughter, Lakeshia (Saul) Worthy and son, Anthony (Latoya) Phillips.
Raymond worked at Ciba-Geigy for several years and during a shutdown, he transferred to Olin Chemical and retired on January 4, 2013 after working for thirty-seven years.
He was a dedicated and faithful member of Big John Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Usher, Superintendent and Sunday School Teacher. Deacon Phillips will be greatly missed.
Raymond was an avid sports fan and his favorite professional teams were: the New York Yankees, New England Patriots and the Los Angeles Lakers. His favorite college teams were the North Carolina Tar Heels and Clemson Tigers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Clarence Phillips and Mrs. Estella Bowman Phillips; two sisters: Margie Jackson and Virginia Greer; and one brother, Earnest L. Phillips, Sr.
Raymond leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted wife, Carolyn Phillips; an adopted son/grandson, Tori Phillips of Malcolm, AL; a daughter, La’Keysha (Saul) Worthy of Jackson, AL; a son, Anthony (Latoya) Phillips of Todd Town; grandchildren: Corey Worthy, Damion Worthy and Anthony Phillips of Jackson, AL, Brayden and Casen Phillips of Todd Town and Leo and Justin Reed of Mt. Vernon, AL; five sisters: Bobbie Mitchell, Patricia Phillips, Mary Phillips, Linda Phillips all of Seattle, WA and Dora (Fred) Bryant of St. Stephens, AL; brothers: Tommie Phillips of Columbus, OH and Ozell Phillips of St. Stephens, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a “ton” of friends because…
