Reaf Lang, Jr., 79, affectionately known to family as “Shy,” passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2020. The first-born son of the late Reaf Lang, Sr. and Ethel Lee Lang, Lang was born in Sunflower, Alabama (Washington County), and graduated from Prestwick High School in 1959. Reaf lived a full life as a husband, father, and grandfather. He was a manager at Ciba-Geigy Corporation (Ciba), now BASF corporation in McIntosh, Alabama, for over 35 years. A resident of Whistler, Alabama, Reaf was married for 26 years to Dethelder Ingram Lang (Dee) until her passing on August 30, 2020. Reaf is survived by his children, Raphael Tilley (Waikikita), Brian Tiggs (Darlene) and Phyllis Yvonne Neal; step-children, Sandra Henley Dunn (Billy), Kathy Henley Thompson, Pamela Henley Thompson, and Diann Henley Greer; brothers The Reverend Jimmie Lang (Elvira), Tommy Lang; sisters, Mattie Barnes Austin (James), Nellie Barnes, Dorothy Barnes (Sterling), Georgia Ferrell, and Dora Roberts; Aunt Jaqueline Kimbrough, and nephews and nieces.
Reaf Lang devoted his servant’s heart to community and service. He was a member of three organizations for over 30 years: Bay City Elks Lodge #1774, Cedar Grove Masonic Lodge #722, and Town and Country Lodge Mystics, Inc. Reaf served as Advisor to the Mayme Cunningham Federated Women’s Club and President of the Advisory Board of the Prichard City Federation of Women’s and Youth Clubs, Inc. Reaf provided consistent and reliable leadership in many roles over the years; however, he earned significant respect as the business manager for the Town and Country Lodge Mystics. In this role, Reaf led the organization to fundraise and donate to the Salvation Army, Boys and Girls Club of Mobile, and three Historically Black Colleges Universities (HBCU): Alabama State University, Alabama A&M University, and Tennessee State University.
Lang was a renaissance man; he loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Reaf was an excellent cook, and when asked how he learned to cook so well, he would credit his mother, saying, “I learned from my mother, Ethel Lee Lang.” Reaf also enjoyed reading, politics, sports, and coin collecting.
Reaf was a devoted member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a Trustee and member of the Senior Usher Board.
Reaf will be remembered for his laugh, warm heart, reassuring spirit, and enduring and steadfast love for his wife, children, sisters, brothers, nieces, and nephews.

To the Lang & Henley Sisters,

God Took Him To His Loving Home
God saw him getting tired, a cure was not to be.
He wrapped him in his loving arms and whispered ‘Come with me.’
He suffered much in silence, his spirit did not bend.
He faced his pain with courage, until the very end.
He tried so hard to stay with us but his fight was not in vain,
God took him to His loving home and freed him from the pain.

You are in my prayers, always. I LOVE YOU, Sandra, Kathy, Pamela, & Diann.

Michael Eugene Douglas
