Obituary for Roger Bendolph

Minister Roger “Dale” Bendolph, a lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama was called to rest on Thursday, April 16, 2020. Roger was born to the union of the late Mr. Rogis and Mrs. Corine Bendolph on August 17, 1954.
Roger loved the Lord with all of his heart and demonstrated his love of God in numerous, tangible ways including his faithful service at Bethlehem Christian Church in Chickasaw, Alabama, as the Head of Christian Education and as a Sunday School Teacher. He would faithfully and passionately study the Word, not only in preparation for his Sunday school lessons but also to develop his relationship with the Lord.
Roger also demonstrated his witness as a Believer through servant leadership in his 34 years of service with the City of Mobile. Roger served for 13 years as an Architectural Engineer and served for 22 years as the Deputy Director of Code Administration. He retired in 2017 serving in this position. He was well respected by his colleagues and shared his knowledge and wisdom with many who crossed his path.
Roger was a 1972 honors graduate of Mattie. T. Blount High School. He went on to receive a B.A. in Architecture from Tuskegee University in 1980. Two years later, he also received a Master’s in Architecture from Tuskegee University. Roger was blessed to also receive training at Georgia Institute of Technology as one of a few African Americans in the graduate program in architecture.
Roger was an avid sports fan, music lover, and gaming enthusiast. And his living room reflected this passion. Roger’s immeasurable adoration of his family was expressed through home visits, gifts, and cooking, especially his famous dressing and homemade vegetable soup. His presence created an indelible imprint that will last for generations to come.
Roger was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Carol Robinson Bendolph; and his parents, Mr. Rogis and Mrs. Corine Bendolph.
Roger leaves to cherish his memories three children, four grandchildren, seven siblings, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends who will miss him dearly.
