Obituary for Rosie Lee Butler

Rosie Lee Butler transitioned this life on May 19, 2020 at Mobile Infirmary Hospital in Mobile, Alabama. Rosie was born on October 29, 1952 in Leroy, Alabama to the Union of Dave and Laura Butler. The family moved to Wilmer, Al after the death of our father in 1957. Rosie began her walk with Christ at Moffettville Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member of the Youth Choir. She was baptized under the pastorship of Rev. Gilbert Lee Williams. Work took her away from home for twenty-six years and upon returning she restored her membership under Rev. Reginald D. McIntyre. Though her mobility hampered her attendance in services she never failed to meet her financial responsibility in support of her church.
Her formal education began at Robert Thompson Elementary, grades 1st -6th. She attended Rosa A. Lott 1965-1967, as a result of the integration of Mobile County Public Schools she was transferred to Mary G. Montgomery High school where she joined the band and 4 –H Club. She later walked across the stage as a graduate of the class of 1971. She matriculated at Alabama A & M University where she graduated in 1975 earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Pathology, she later earned a Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology.
After graduation she moved to Decatur, Alabama where she accepted a position as Speech Pathologist with Lawrence County School System. She worked as a Speech Therapist for 26 years until her health forced her to retire in November of 2004. Rosie was a quiet, gentle, generous and compassionate soul. She loved to read and she was a huge fan of tennis and cowboy shows. Being an avid reader she became skilled at answering trivia questions. Though technology challenged, she loved to play computerized cards, puzzles and word games. Her physical absence will have a deep emotional effect on her family and friends.
