Obituary for Samuel Marshall Jr.

Samuel Marshall Jr. was born June 10, 1946 in Minter City, MS to the late Timothy Marshall and Signora Shields Marshall. After a lengthy illness, he peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home where he was surrounded by family. At a very young age, he joined the Baptist Church in Birmingham, AL. In 1985 he joined the Peace Lutheran Church of Decatur, GA and in 2001, he affirmed his faith and became very active at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Atlanta, GA. He was president of Emmanuel Men’s Group. He loved and devoted his time volunteering and teaching finance at a local Catholic center.
He attended Birmingham, AL public schools and graduated in 1964 from Parker High School. He immediately went to Savanah State College where he played football. He joined the Air Force in 1965 and in 1973 he left and began working for International Harvester. After he graduated from Chicago State University, he transferred to management. He later became an entrepreneur and started his own business, Gemini Computers. He changed careers once again and began working for the United States Postal Service until his retirement. During this time, he earned a master’s degree in Sports Psychology from Capella University.
Samuel Marshall is preceded in death by his parents, Timothy and Signora Shields Marshall; four sisters, Marianne, Evelyn, Juanita, and Jeanette. He is survived by a loving and devoted wife, Mrs. Dorothy Ann Marshall; two daughters, Sarena Ostby and Natacha Marshall (Mark Byrd), one grandson, Jonathan Marshall; two sisters, Doris Greene and Jacquelyn Clayton; two brothers, Marvin (Lois) and Douglas (Lillie); a devoted caregiver, Lyndon Richardson, and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
