Obituary for Sheila Elaine Jones

The beautiful Sheila Elaine Jones, a lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama, was born December 31, 1952. She peacefully departed this life to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at Springhill Memorial Hospital. She was born to the union of the late Thomas Webster (T.W.) and Nellie Mae McDowell and proceeded in death by her brother Michael Leon McDowell.


Sheila accepted Christ at an early age at Truevine Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. I.U. Leigh. She served faithfully on the Senior Usher Board, Culinary Committee, #2 Choir, Antone Circle, directed the Children Usher Board Ministry, and served as Youth Co-Coordinator. She was a 1970 graduate of Toulminville High School. She received degrees from Laney College in Oakland, California and The University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama. She was employed as the Mobile County Barber Commissioner Secretary for many years.


Sheila was affectionately known by many as a “mother figure” and “good friend”. She enjoyed being in the company of family and friends. She left a lasting impression on all that had the privilege and honor to be in her graceful presence. She was easy to talk too, a confidant to many, a purpose pusher, and an amazing woman of God with an inspirational spirit.


She leaves to cherish her precious memories two devoted and loving children, one daughter, Tanika Jones and one son, Chauvin (Brandy) Jones; Six grandchildren, two of whom she reared namely, Te’Ana Chimere Crum Jones, Anthony Jayden Crum Jones, and David Ephriam, Bailey Jones, Tamiriel Goldsmith, Drake Wright; two devoted brothers, Thomas (Juanita) McDowell, and Marvin (Laura) McDowell; Two loving sisters, Joyce Archibald, and Reba Davis; Two special nephews, Carl (Ebony) McDowell, and Daniel (Jakaylyn) Davis II; Eight nieces, Gale Clausell, Jackie (Michael) Williams, Dr. Natasha (Darren) Iszard, Mya and Layna McDowell, Dana and Diera Davis, Renell Henderson and the late Denell Archibald; Two uncles, Eddie Antone, and Andrew (Judina) Antone; Aunt & Matriarch, Mary F. Robinson( 100 years Old) Two special god-daughters, Biance Steele, and Miriam Randle; and a host of other relatives and friends.


Sheila’s special lifelong friends include: Lillie Woodyard, Maxine Graham, Sally Johnson, Judina Antone, Pamela Randle, Brent White, Linda Hayles, Barbara Vaghn, Diana McNeil, Gloria Hill, and Yolanda Stallworth.
