Obituary for Shirley Lucille Thomas

Shirley L. Thomas was born May 31, 1950 to Mary Alice (McConico) Benson and Charlie “Peter” Thomas. She exchanged this life for eternity, at Saad Healthcare on Monday, November 18, 2019. She was a diligent servant of Macedonia Baptist Church Matron’s Ministry where she actively attended in Daphne, Al.
She graduated from Baldwin County Training School and Alabama State University. Upon completion, she worked as a business administrator assistant and a community health aide. She retired from Douglasville High School as a paraprofessional in 2012. After retirement, she worked for Wal-Mart until her health decline in 2017.
She preceded death by her father Charlie “Peter” Thomas, dad, L.C. Benson, and companion, Murray Willis.
She is survived by her mother, Mary Alice Benson; daughter, Amanda (Darrin Sr.) Houston of Fairhope, Al; son, Lawrence (Pamela) Yelding of Daphne, Al; brothers, Lawrence (Anne) Thomas of Jackson, Al; Charles Thomas, Eddie (Pam) Thomas both of Daphne, Al; sister, Yvette Jones Bracy of Daphne, Al. Ms. Thomas leaves to cherish six caring grandchildren, Darrin Houston Jr., August Houston, Janie Houston, Khalil Yelding, Rashad Yelding, and Amare Yelding; one great-grandson Darrin V. Houston III, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins (devoted Reed sisters and Irmatean McConico), two god children, Reginald Hunt and Keelan Reed; a devoted great nephew, Braceson Dailey and a host of life-long friends, Laura Baldwin and Patricia Sanders.
