Obituary for Sylvester Square Sr.

“His Lord said unto him well done, thou good and faithful servant: Thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: Enter thou unto the joy of the Lord. (Matthew 25:21).

Mr. Sylvester (“Buck”) Square, Sr., Born March 2, 1954 in Mobile, Alabama. On Monday, February 3, 2020, our wise and merciful God called a loving soul home to rest.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Freddie and Delores Square; a brother, Freddie Square, Jr.; two sisters, Annie Delores (Peaches) and Cora Square.
He attended the public schools in Mobile, Alabama and was a graduate of Williamson High School and also Carver State Technical College. At an early age he confessed his faith in Jesus Christ and joined Delaware Street Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Bennie Zachary. He then became a member of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Willie C. McNeil where he attended until his health began to fail.
He was united in holy matrimony to Patricia Pettway Square of 44 years. This union was blessed with three beautiful children.
He was a family man; a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and brother-n-law. He was generous, humorous, empathetic and very supportive. He was loved by many. He loved sports and had his favorite teams: Collegiate Football -Alabama; NFL-Pittsburgh Steelers; and NBA-Los Angeles Lakers. He was an avid card player of spades and pluck. He enjoyed entertaining family and friends with summertime cookouts.
He served in the United States Army. He retired from the City of Mobile after working 24 wonderful years as a Brick Mason. He was very creative with his hands.
He leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted wife, Patricia Pettway Square; a loving and devoted daughter whom he loved with all his heart, Serena (Eddie) Pippins, Newport News, VA; two loving and devoted sons, Sylvester (Leesha) Square, Jr., Atlanta, GA, and DeLawrence Square. A loving and devoted goddaughter, Monica (Raven) Thomas (Atlanta, GA). Eight grandchildren: Two devoted, Jalen Square, Newport News, VA and Jaden Square, Atlanta, GA; Kaden, Zion, and Cameron Square, all of Atlanta, GA, Lorenzo McKee, Mobile, AL, Laila and Riley Thomas, Atlanta, GA.
Four sisters: Elder Darlene (Jessie) Scott, Mobile, AL, Sharon (Joseph) Harris, Los Angeles, CA, devoted Isabella Square, Dallas, GA, and Carolyn Square, Mobile, AL. One Uncle: Marcellus (Dorothy) Autry, Jr., Norfolk, VA. Three loving and devoted Aunts: Margie Marshall, Isabella (Edwin) Cousin, and Joyce Square, Slidell, LA. Two devoted brother-n-laws: Charles (Barbara) Pettway, Gulfport, MS, Sammie Harris, Mobile, AL. One devoted sister-n-law: Helen Pettway, Sandy Springs, GA. Two devoted friends: James (Yolanda) Thomas and Albert Bendolph, all of Mobile, AL. A devoted family Connie Pugh and kids and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mr. Sylvester Square, Sr. lived his life by a basic principle and biblical rule of “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” (Matthew 7:12).
