Obituary for Walter Betts

Bishop Walter C. Betts, Presiding /Chief Apostle of the Holy Church of God, Incorporated, a resident of Mobile, Al was born on February 16, 1938 in the city of Bay Minette, AL peacefully transitioned this life on Friday December 13,2019 at the age of 81. He was preceded in death by his parents Willie and Virginia Dickerson Betts. He had six brothers and three sisters; all deceased except one brother and sister.
Bishop joined the United states Army in 1956. After his military service, he was blessed to marry the love of his life, Aurelia Logan in August of 1959. They were married for 60 years and born to this union were 3 boys and one girl. Bishop Gave his life to the Lord and joined the Holy Church of God, Cottage Hill and matured in the Lord. His focus was on Jesus and the needs of the church.
He served the church in many capacities including a janitor, Sunday School teacher, deacon, minister, Ordained Elders, Overseer, Associate Bishop and Junior Bishop. He had pastored most of the churches in the organization until 1995, after the death of our Presiding Bishop Louis R. Tate, he became the fourth Presiding Bishop of The Holy Church of God, Incorporated.
Over the years, Bishop has endorsed many outreach ministries, community services and other endeavors that served the needs of the people. He has written several books, and volumes of material that will inspire the next generation. God blessed our Bishop to live out his dream to see the Holy land in Israel where he and Mother were baptized in the Jordan River, took communion in the Upper room and Many other experiences. Bishop Betts worked for the Mobile Public School System for many years until his retirement.
Bishop Betts leaves to cherish his memory: a faithful and devoted wife, National Mother Aurelia Betts, four children; Dewayne ( Katrina) Betts, Dallas, TX ; Kent Betts, Joseph ( Avis ) Betts, One devoted daughter, Tonya Betts all of Mobile, AL and God blessed them with 3 more sons; Raymond( LaTeisha) Roscoe, Mobile, AL; Reginald Roscoe, Inglewood, Ca; and Andre Davis, Long Island, NY. Many grandchildren, Devoted granddaughter Rhema Praise Washington; several great-grands; one brother, Deacon Vidmon (Eloise) Betts, Mobile, AL and one sister Eva ( John) Bryant, Atlanta, GA. Devoted Sister-in-laws Grace Wells, Grand Bay, AL and Mother Claudia (Melvin) Beckham, Eight Mile, AL; Selena Logan (Bill)Stallworth, Daphne, AL, and Faye Logan, Montgomery, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends, as well as church Family.
