Obituary for Walter Phillips

Walter Phillips, a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama, traded time for eternity on Friday, April 17, 2020.

Born May 27, 1951, Walter was the youngest of nine children born to the union of Randall and Hattie Phillips. Walter accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Greater Morning Star Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Reverend C. H. Peterson. He later united under Fresh Fire on the Mount Church, where Reverend Aaron McKinnis is pastor.

Walter was a 1969 graduate of Toulminville High School, Home of the Rattlers. He was an outstanding basketball player on his high school team. Because of his skills on the court, Walter was awarded a basketball scholarship to Dillard University; he attended Dillard for two years.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents; his only child: a daughter, Fanora Phillips Young; three brothers: Randall Phillips, Jr., Richard Phillips, Sr., and one devoted, Roosevelt Phillips; two sisters: Bertha Collins and Mary Phillips; and two sisters-in-law: Evelyn Phillips and Sandra Phillips.

Walter leaves to cherish his memory two grandsons: Terry and Diabys Young; two brothers: Herman (LuVirta) Phillips and William (Louise) Phillips; one sister: Rosetta Hudson; and many other relatives and friends.
