Obituary for MSgt (Retired) Walter S. Siggers US Air Force

Walter Stephen Siggers made it to his eternal home on Monday, August 28, 2023. “Sonny,” as his family affectionately called him, has transitioned from earth to glory. He was born on January 28, 1943, in Mobile, Alabama to Walter Henry Siggers and Katherine (Quivers) Siggers.

Sonny was baptized at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He graduated in 1961 from Central High School, Mobile, Al. After graduation, Sonny married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Smith and later enlisted in the United States Air Force. He retired with honors after twenty- years attaining the rank of Master Sergeant, serving as an Inventory Management Supervisor and Military Training Instructor. During his career he received several promotions, medals, decorations, and awards.

Military service afforded Sonny and his family the opportunity to see the world; they were stationed at Shaw AFB in Sumpter, South Carolina; Kadena AFB in Okinawa, Japan (twice); Pease AFB in Portsmouth, New Hampshire; McConnell AFB in Wichita, Kansas; Thailand; Lackland AFB and Kelly AFB in San Antonio, Texas.

After retirement Sonny was known as Walt by his friends. His work continued to involve travel. He worked as a contractor in Saudi Arabia and later returned home to Mobile and was employed by the City of Mobile and later worked for his longtime friend, Ben Nguyen at Abbot Rental, Inc.

Sonny had many interests including: music (a love he shared with his brother Dick) and cars (a love he shared with his brother Kevin). He also earned a green belt in the discipline of Karate, dabbled in photography, collected stamps, and indulged in watching TV.

Sonny is now rejoicing in heaven with his: father and mother, Walter and Katherine Siggers; sister, Sharon Deborah Siggers; brother, Glenard Gregory (Dick) Siggers, Sr.; son, Walter Stephen Siggers, Jr.; daughter, Carmen Felicia Balzeigler; grandson, Damon Anthony Siggers; and brother-in-law, Alonzo Edward Jones. He will also rejoice with his grandparents and other deceased relatives and friends.

He leaves a legacy of his daughters: Yolanda (Maury) Thibodeaux, Coldspring, TX.; Vanessa Siggers, Mobile, Al; and son Vincent Ramon Siggers, San Antonio, TX. He will be missed by sisters: Margaret Bernadette Jones, and Brenda Joyce Williams of Mobile, AL; and brother Kevin (Ada) Siggers, Jasper, TX; grandchildren: Malik Kareem Kourouma, Ondrea Nichole Martinez, Justin Gadson, Donnie Balzeigler, Jr., Jessica Balzeigler, Nicholas Aaron Balzeigler, Velicia Siggers, Vincent Siggers, Lauren Siggers, September Siggers, Brooke Siggers, and Joshua Williams.

Sonny also leaves to cherish his memory aunts: Mary Quivers Steven and Frenzetta Quivers; close neighbor Twyla Small and his special friend, Nwabisa (Tinky) Sihawu.
