William Eugene Callier a lifelong resident of Mobile, AL passed away on Friday, June 21, 2019, after a lengthy illness. He was known by some as “Billy” by some as "Callier", and by others as "Coach". To his family he was known as a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend who loved and treasured family. He was born March 24, 1936, to William and Margaret Callier. Issac and Charity Henry were loving grandparents who positively impacted William’s life. He united with Christ as a young man and remained close to the Lord throughout his life. He was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church, where he sang in the Male Chorus and remained active until illness prevented involvement. He was a graduate of the Central High School Class of 1956. After high school he went to Grambling State University and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Physical Education. Not only did he obtain an education at Grambling State, he met the woman who would become his beloved wife, Katherine Coleman. William’s education was interrupted when he joined the military. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He pursued higher education at Alabama State University earning a Masters Degree in Education. He was actively involved in alumni chapters for both Grambling, Alabama State and Central High School. When ready to begin his work career he joined the faculty of Williamson High School. He worked at Williamson for thirty-four years teaching history, coaching sports and impacting the lives of students. After retiring, often during outings he would see former students and enjoyed talking with them about the good old days at Williamson! His interest included sports, Central High School Class activities, and cooking. He was often found in the kitchen whipping up a variety of tasty dishes. He enjoyed holidays and family gatherings. He loved to laugh, had a megawatt smile and huge personality. He was quick to share words of advice, inspiration and encouragement. William set an example for family to be their best, to love and cherish family. William leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife of fifty-four years, Katherine Callier; son, Marquin Callier; daughters: Sonsherraye Gowder and Olivetti aka Gina (Elliott); grandchildren: Tarrick Cobb, Chantelle, Nicolle and Brandyn Callier, Jade Womack and William Vassell; great grandaughter, Kendyl Cobb; nephew, Juan Morris; niece, Donna (Theo); cousins: Patricia Allen, Arementha Callier and Clara Chestang; and a host of other relatives and good friends. William was blessed to be deeply loved by family and friends. He and daughter Gina had a very special bond. Gina was “Daddy’s Girl”. She was devoted to her father. Throughout his illness Gina tirelessly cared for her father, giving so selflessly of herself. The family recognizes Gina’s many sacrifices and offers a special thank you to her.
