Obituary for Willie Hudson Powell

MS. WILLIE MAE HUDSON POWELL, a native of Houma, Louisiana and a resident of Mobile, Alabama was born April 4, 1926 and departed this life Saturday, September 12, 2009 at Lynwood Nursing Home. She was a faithful member of Emanuel A.M.E. Church. She was preceded in death by her husbands Jack Powell and Bernard Hudson, three sons, Frank Powell, Donnie Powell and George Powell and a daughter, Lind Faye Powell. She is survived by four sons, Melvin (Diann) Powell, Michael (Daisy) Powell of Mobile, AL., Jack (Elvira) Powell of DeHona, FL., Roderick Lewis of Knoxville, TN. Three daughters, Rosa McElroy of Mobile, AL., Ethel Marie Powell of Harrisburg, PA. and Jackie Lewis of Knoxville, TN. One devoted daughter-in-law, Gwendolyn Powell of Prichard, AL. Two sister-in-laws, Florence Johnson of Monroeville, AL and Sally Smith of Houma, LA. A host of devoted grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her remains will lie in state at Small's Mortuary on Friday, September 18, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, September 19, 2009 at Emanuel A.M.E. Church, 654 St. Michael Street. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon funeral, at which time Rev. John Dees Jr. will conduct the funeral service. Interment will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery Mobile, AL. Dignified and professional services entrusted to Small's Mortuary, 950 S. Broad Street Mobile, AL.
