Obituary for Willis Earl Breland

Willis Earl “Bill” Breland, native of Laurel, Mississippi and resident of Mobile, Alabama passed away on Monday, May 1st, 2023 at the age of 77. He was a beloved husband and father with a gentle yet strong spirit. He was so generous and humble and will be missed greatly by his family, friends, and loved ones. He was a Vietnam Veteran and received a Purple Heart for his wounds sustained in active combat. He was preceded in death by his father Peter Bliss Breland, mother Deta Trest Breland, sister Barbara Willingham, and brother Gerald Breland. He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years Ruth Petrie Breland, daughters Sara Knox (Carrey), Melinda Scott (Tom), Cynthia Mintz (Brian), eight grandchildren, sister Jennie Tillman (Gary), brother Charles Breland (Debra), brothers and sisters in law, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends.

As a U.S. Army Veteran who proudly and bravely served his country, he will be laid to rest at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort, Alabama on Tuesday, May 9, 2023. Services are being respectfully and beautifully provided by Smalls Mortuary, however there will not be a visitation at their facility and the services at the Memorial Cemetery will be for family.
