Jewell Annette Valrie, 65, of Garner, NC departed this life on Thursday, February 9, 2017. Born August 9, 1951 in Mobile, AL to the late Cecelia Packer, Jewell graduated from Central High School in Mobile, AL, obtained her Bachelor of Arts from Tuskegee University, and her Masters in Adult Education from North Carolina State University. She started her professional career as a programmer for IBM. Jewell then discovered her passion for teaching, and spent 25 years as an instructor in the North Carolina Community College system, spending the majority of career at Wake Tech Community College.

Survived by her husband, Charles Valrie; her three daughters,(Annette Valrie of Garner, NC, Cecelia Valrie of Greenville, NC, and Carrie Valrie of Raleigh, NC; her grandson, Gavin Malone; her brother, DeSavieu Johnson of Mobile, AL; her maternal aunt, Edna Packer of Mobile, AL; her mother-in-law, Carrie Valrie of Loxley, AL; and her loving extended family.

A visitation for Mrs. Valrie will be held on Friday, February 17, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until the 10:00 a.m. funeral hour at the Mt. Aid Missionary Baptist Church, 9470 US Highway 90, Daphne, AL 36526. Interment will follow in the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Spanish Fort at 1:30.
