Willie Jean  McGee Jr.
Willie Jean McGee, known as Gene, was born to Willie and Beatrice McGee on February 15, 1941 in Tuscaloosa, AL. He departed this life for his eternal home on Friday, April 14, 2017.

His parents preceded him in death as well as his best friend and brother, Booker T. Jones. He moved to Mobile, AL and at an early age and attended Center High School. Gene's extensive military career began in 1964. He retired from the U.S. Army as E-9 Sgt. Major in 1994. During his time is service he received secret military clearance and saw several overseas tours which included Desert Storm, The Cambodian Campaign, The Bay of Pigs Support, Grenada, U.S. invasion of Panama and Viet Nam. While overseas Gene became a 32nd degree Mason.in 1989 he received a bachelors of science in business Administration degree from the Columbia University. He also graduated from the National Center for Housing Management's Leadership for Armed Services Personnel (LEAP) program and HUD programs becoming a Certified Housing Manager. In 1998 Gene moved to Chicago, IL and worked as a Housing manager of the Chicago Housing Authority. It was there that he met and married the love of his life, Karen. They relocated to Mobile, AL in 2004. He then became a member of the American Legion Post 76 and the Elks Lodge in Plateau. He was also an avid New Orleans Saints and Alabama Crimson Tide fan. Gene overcame a number of illnesses until he departed this earthly life on April 14, 2017.

He leaves to mourn his wife, Karen, who remained devoted throughout their marriage she loved, protected and cared for him until the second he departed; children, Warren J. (Venisha) McGee, Mobile, AL; Benita (Damon) Armstrong, Albion, MI, Sherisse McGee, Huntsville, AL, and Byron (LaToya) Gettings, Charlotte, NC; sisters, Dorothy (Charlie) McGee, Amarie (John) Bryant, Teresa (Thomas) Kelly, Alberta (Charles) Jones, Beatrice Petway all reside in Mobile, AL; brothers, David Jones, Mobile, Benny Stone, Mobile, Dennis Stone, Chicago, IL, Danny Stone, Atlanta, GA; a very special brother and sister-in-law, Rodney and Linda Hunt; a plethora of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

His remains will lie in state 1-8pm Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Small's Mortuary, Mobile. A visitation will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 8:30am until the 9:30am funeral hour in the Small's Mortuary Chapel, Mobile, AL.

Interment will follow in the AL State Veteran Cemetery, Spanish Fort, AL.
