Obituary for Janice Marie Porter
Janice Marie Wallace Porter, 66, a lifelong resident of Mobile, AL exchanged time for eternity on Wednesday, July 19, 2017. She was born to the late Alexander D. Wallace, Sr. and Mary Beck Mitchell Wallace on January 17, 1951.
She was preceded in death by her parents; maternal grandmother, Mary Lee Mitchell; brother-in-law, Louis Branch; sister-in-law, Bernadette Pettway and nephew, Jamar Pettway. Janice was educated in the public schools of Mobile. She earned an Associate of Science from S.D. Bishop State Community College in 1970 and a Bachelor of Science in Business Education from Alabama State University in 1972. Janice became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated through the Pearls of Beta Pi Chapter (Alabama State University). Janice was a distinguished member of the Bishop State Community College staff for 44 years.
She was a loving wife, devoted mother, sweet sister, and awesome grandmother to her four grandchildren. Janice was a woman of faith and ordained minister. Janice was a devoted member of Word Alive Christian Life Ministries.
Mrs. Porter is survived by her husband of 46 years, Wilbert S. Porter, Sr; children: Wilbert Jr. (Vernessa), Janel, and Angel (Leamiah Hughes); her grandchildren: Esteban, Schynese, Mikayah and Jaael Porter; one granddog, Jose. Her siblings and in-laws: Alexander Jr., Beverly and Michael (Selina) Wallace, Harold Branch, Clyde Porter, Early Pettway, Brenda Patterson.
Visitation will be held at Small's Mortuary at 950 S. Broad Street in Mobile from 5pm-8pm Thursday, July 27, 2017. Her homegoing will be celebrated at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 714 Savannah Street, Mobile on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 11:00 AM.
Interment will be at Pine Crest Cemetery.
