Obituary for William Thomas Tunstall

William Thomas  Tunstall
William Thomas Tunstall was born August 22, 1941 in Monroe County, Alabama, to the late Samuel Tunstall and Viola Roberts Tunstall.

He departed this earth on Sunday, October 8, 2017. William was educated in the public schools of Mobile, Alabama, where he graduated in 1960 from Central High School. He went on to attend and graduate from Tuskegee Institute in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Education, and a Master’s Degree in Education in 1965.

In 1965, William began his career as a teacher with the Rowan-Salisbury School System in Salisbury, North Carolina. During his tenure he served in various roles, including a teacher, Assistant Principal, and Vocation Director. As a teacher, William taught industrial arts and was skilled in woodcraft and furniture refinishing. He retired from the Rowan-Salisbury School System after more than thirty years as an educator.
William married his college sweetheart, Lille Ruth Kiel. To this union, four children were born: Dwayne Tunstall, Daryl Tunstall, Derek Tunstall and Dionne Tunstall. William was a loving father who was soft-spoken, kind and patient. He also loved fishing and listening to music.

William accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and was a member of Sweet Pilgrim Baptist Church in Mobile under the leadership of Reverend E. Cleveland Jones. While living in Salisbury, he was a member of First Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon in the church. After retirement, William returned to Mobile and reunited with Sweet Pilgrim Baptist Church.

William was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Florastine T. Pettway.

He leaves to cherish his memories four devoted children, Dwayne Tunstall, Daryl Tunstall, Derek Tunstall and Dionne (Anthony) Tunstall Jenkins, all of North Carolina; two granddaughters, Ciara Tunstall Boyakins and Antonia Hughes; the mother of his children, Lillie Ruth Tunstall; one sister, Mayola (Roland) Ellis; three nieces, Karla Ellis, Kimberly (Taurus) Rabb Felton, and Joli (Michael) Pettway Dardon; two nephews, Eric Rabb and Steven Ellis; a life-long friend, Samuel Tartt; several great-nephews and great-nieces; and many other relatives, friends and neighbors.

The “Celebration Of Life” service will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017 beginning at 10am at the Sweet Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, 359 St. Charles Avenue, Mobile, Alabama.

Interment will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, AL
