Mrs. `Rebecca Wells Spears was born August 17, 1923 to the late William and Gracie Wells in Hale County, AL. She accepted Christ at an early age and attended the Lily Hill Baptist Church in Uniontown, AL and was educated in the Jefferson County School System at Westfield High School.

Rebecca eventually moved to Mobile, AL and upon doing so, she united with El Bethel Primitive Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. T.M. Batts, and Rev. Jonathan Yates. She then transitioned her membership to Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. George Harris and Rev. Clinton Johnson. At the time of her passing, Rebecca had made a final transition to become a member of Little Welcome Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. J.C. Garror.

Upon her move from Bessemer, AL to Mobile, AL, Rebecca met her husband of 55 years, Arthur Spears, Sr., and to this union was born three children: Rebecca, Arthur, Jr., and Peter. Her daughter, Rebecca, passed away early in life leaving Arthur, Jr. and Peter as the remaining children. Rebecca and Arthur, Sr. nurtured these young boys to be fine and upstanding young men.

Rebecca became a widow on October 29, 2000 with her sons and daughters-in-law there for support as well as her grandchildren. One daughter-in-law (Vera) passed in 2006 and the other (Azzaree) in 2017 leaving the sons and grandsons for total support until the time of her final departure on November 22, 2017.

The following remain to mourn her passing: one sister: Lourenzia Briggins (Uniontown, AL); two sons: Arthur Spears, Jr. (Mobile, AL) and Peter Spears, Sr. (Adell Brown) (Montgomery, AL); five grandsons: Arthur Spears III (Mobile, AL), Akareem Spears (Shondretta) (Mobile, AL), Arenthal Spears (Latonya) (Mobile, AL), Peter Spears II (Atlanta, GA), and Jason Spears (Chicago, IL); seven great grandchildren; two great, great grandchildren; church daughters: Belinda Harris, Doris Chavis, and Ella Jones; special friends and neighbors: Christine Amerson and Carolyn Norwood; and a host of nieces, nephews, and dear relatives and friends.

Her remains will lie in state on Friday, December 1, 2017 from 1-8pm at Small’s Mortuary, Mobile.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2017 from 9am until the 11am funeral hour at Little Welcome Baptist Church, 1516 Wolf Ridge Rd., Mobile, Alabama. Interment will follow in Whispering Pines Cemetery, Eight Mile, AL
