Bessie Pearl Briggs, was born October 8, 1936 to the Late Jimmy Bright and Gussie Russell Bright of Lower Peachtree, Alabama. She was the “first born” of ten children. She accepted Christ at an early age and attended Mount Moriah Baptist Church of Lower Peachtree, Alabama. Upon her move from Lower Peachtree to Brooklyn, New York, she became a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church in Brooklyn. For over fifty
years, she served faithfully in the choir and performed outreach missionary work in the community.

Bessie was employed in the clothing industry and after many years of working, she enjoyed retirement until her health declined and shortly after moving to Mobile. She is preceded in death by her father, Jimmy Bright; her mother, Gussie Russell Bright; and two sisters: Lillian Pharr and Lucy Railback.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her one and only loving child, Anthony (Debra) Briggs; four loving grandchildren: Kirby, AJ, and Natalya Briggs and Markisha Snowden; two great-grandchildren: Kody and Carter; five sisters: Earnestine Carter and Mattie Bright of Moreno Valley, CA; two devoted: Dorothy Mitchell and Nesidale Ward of Whistler, AL and Elouise Bright of Glendale, AZ; two brothers: Raymond (Irene) Bright, Sr. and Arthur (Janice) Bright, Sr. both of Eight Mile, AL; two aunts: Laura Mae Nobles of Maple Heights, OH and Tina Hudson of Long Island, NY; one uncle, Winfred Carleton of Eight Mile, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, other dear relatives and friends.

She will lie in state 1-8pm Friday, February 23, 2018 at Small’s Mortuary, Mobile. A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018 from 1pm until the 2pm funeral hour at Small’s Mortuary Chapel, 950 South Broad Street, Mobile, AL. Interment will follow in the Gethsemane North Cemetery, Eight Mile, AL.
