Percy Dewey LaDuna Sr. received his wings at home while resting in his sleep on the morning of Sunday, January 15, 2017.
One beautiful day in the fall, Percy was born to Alice Elizabeth LaDuna (DuBose) on January 30, 1953. As a quiet and humble man, he had a spirit of love that flowed over to everyone he came into contact with. From home to work and throughout the neighborhood, as well as the many parks and schools his children and grandchildren attended, he was loved by all with his calm and cool demeanor. Percy had a love for attending extracurricular dance and sporting events of his children and grandchildren with his wife Shirley always at his side. In his younger days, he lived a life full of energy, which included playing high school football and singing through the evenings and nights with close friends. He was a part of the Williamson High School Lions Class of 1971. He also served his country honorably as a member of the United States Air Force. Throughout his life, he enjoyed a career of cooking and was often called “Chef”. Percy and his family have fed many athletes of several of the teams his children and grandchildren participated in and countless other extracurricular events & activities. On August 21, 2005, Percy gave his life back to Christ at St. Peter Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his mother Alice Elizabeth LaDuna DuBose, his sister Reverend Martha Lang, and his brother Jerome LaDuna.
He leaves to cherish his memories and carry on his legacy, a devoted lifelong wife and best friend of 48 years, Shirley LaDuna; 4 children, Tiffany (Errin) Robinson, Laketa (Johnny) Thornton, Shanté (Earl) Reese, and Percy LaDuna Jr.; 14 grandchildren Terran Craig, Byran J. Smith-Craig, D’Andre L. Smith, Evan Scott-Robinson, Justin Reese, Johnathan Thornton, Makayla LaDuna, Jason Reese, Symon Smith, Kennyde Williams, Eryn Robinson, Percy LaDuna III, Endya Gibbs, and Pharren Keith. He is also survived by his sisters Alice (Larry) Bradley & Sharon Brown, and his brothers Joseph (Mattie) LaDuna & Victor (Gloria) LaDuna along with a host of loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family & friends.

His remains will lie in state on Monday, January 23, 2017 from 1pm until 8pm at Smalls Mortuary, Mobile, AL. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2017 from 9am to the 11am funeral hour at Franklin Street Baptist Church, 2113 St Stephens Road, Mobile, AL. Interment will follow at Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Spanish Fort, AL.
