Richard Douglas Chastang, 67, passed away Friday, February 9, 2018. He was a Catholic and a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Chastang, AL. Born May 26, 1950 in Valpariso, FL, Richard was the eldest of seven children.

Richard grew up in Orlando, FL and graduated from Florida Southern College in Lakeland, FL with a degree in History. He also earned a Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of Central Florida.

Richard was a History teacher, gym owner, and personal fitness trainer before he began his career as an Archivist for the Archdiocese of Mobile where he pursued his passion for geneology. What began as a teenage hobby grew into a relentless life-long pursuit to learn all he could about the Chastang Family History. A well recognized expert, Richard had completed extensive research and loved to share this knowledge and accurately preserve that history for future generations.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Chastang and sister, Andrea Chastang Stone.
He is survived by his loving mother, Harriet Chastang; sisters: Janine Callahan, Jacqueline Smith, Germaine Ferraro, and Georgette Chastang; brother: Lawrence Chastang; six nieces; seven nephews; Noel Andry and numerous cousins and extended family in Mobile.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018 from 9am until the 11am funeral hour at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 16650 US Highway 43, Mt. Vernon, AL. Interment will follow in Chastang Bluff Cemetery, Mt. Vernon, AL.
