Irene McConnell  Smith
Mrs. Irene McConnell Smith, affectionally known as “Muh” received her wings to be with her heavenly Father on Saturday, March 3, 2018. She was born to the union of Mr. Thermon and Emily Wilson Harrell on October 23, 1929 in Marion Junction, Alabama. She was a retired employee of the International Paper Company.

Mrs. Smith accepted Jesus as her Lord and Saviour at an early age and joined the Greater Nazaree Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Joseph Blair, where she remained a faithful member until her health declined.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Mr. Therman and Emily Harrell; husband: Alfred Smith; Son: Mr. Prennis Smith; two sisters: Mrs. Sarah Allen and Mrs. Lillie Mae Henry; three brothers: Mr. Herman (Buddy), Mr. Mose, and Mr. Roosevelt Harrell, Sr.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories and to celebrate her legacy four devoted daughters: Mrs. Betty (John) Pittman, Ms. Elaine McConnell, Ms. Ashley and little Ms. Asia Smith; two loving and devoted sons: Mr. Donald (Willie Mae) Scott and Mr. Rayshun Smith; one brother: Mr. Thermon Harrell of Mobile, AL; three sisters: Mrs. Bonnie Scott of New Orleans, LA, Mrs. Carolyn Woodson and Ms. JoAnn Moore of Birmingham, AL; two sisters-in-law: Ms. Earline Harrell of New Orleans, LA and Mrs. Emma Lee Harrell of Belle Glade, FL; a host of grandchildren, two devoted: Kasung (Andrier) McConnell, RayShun (Ebone) McConnell and Prennis (Alanna) Watkins; a host of great grandchildren: Jessica Dunson, Taqar (Chris) Hallmark, Jakay Lynn, Rayshun Jr., Ray Ghan McConnell. Jayden, Jayla, and B.J. Dunson, Liam and Roman Hallmark, Emore Holifield and Brycen Williams, Saralyn Florence, Jazmaine and Prennis Watkins, Jr.; and a host of nieces and nephews: two devoted, Mr. Zackery Scott and Mr. Roosevelt (Linda) Harrell, Jr. of Argyle, Texas; a host of cousins: two devoted, Melvin (Jean) Sultry and Aaron Demmings; two god-daughters: Mrs. Andrea (Bruce) Pettaway and Virginia Brown; other relatives and friends.

Her remains will lie in state 1-8pm on Friday March 9, 2018 at Small’s Mortuary, Mobile. A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2018 from 9am until the 11am funeral hour at Greater Nazaree MB Church, 511 J. Blair St., Mobile.
