Obituary for Barbara Ann Ruffin

A native Mobilian, Barbara Ann Ruffin, was born on August 15, 1947 to the parentage of Levert Ruffin and Lucille Harris. She was preceded in death by her parents. Barbara Ann departed this life at the family homestead on Sunday, September 14, 2014. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Truevine Missionary Baptist Church. Barbara Ann was a 1967 graduate of Central High School. Being a strong advocate for education, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Miles College and a Master?s Degree in Social Work from Troy State University. Barbara Ann had an incredible love and compassion for helping others. She served as a Supervisor at Dynamic Educational Systems, Inc. (DESI). Prior to working at DESI, she served as a caseworker at Bessemer Housing Project for many years. Barbara Ann is survived by a very devoted family - -including her twin children, Desmond Ruffin (fianc? Xiomara Henriquez) of Afghanistan and Demarish Ruffin-Smith (Dr. Richard Smith) of Birmingham, Al; grandchildren, Richard and Reese Smith; longtime companion, Johnny Agee and his daughter, Chastity Agee; aunt, Viola Linkhorn; and a host of other relatives and friends. Her remains will lie in state on Friday, September 19, 2014 from 1pm until 8pm at Small?s Mortuary, Mobile, AL. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2014 from 9am until the 11am funeral hour at Nazaree Full Gospel Church 1695 W. I-65 Service Rd. Mobile, AL. Interment will follow in Whispering Pines, Eight Mile, AL. DIGNIFIED AND PROFESSIONAL SERVICES ENTRUSTED TO SMALL?S MORTUARY 950 SOUTH BROAD ST. MOBILE, AL. 36603.
