Obituary for Bertha Mama Mae Hendrix-

Sister Bertha Mae Hendrix Beard "Mama Mae", a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama was born July 7, 1927. She exchanged life for eternity on Monday, October 12, 2009. She was the daughter of the late Deacon Allen and Anna Hendrix. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Beard, Sr., four brothers, Allen, Plez, Albert and Herbert Hendrix, two sisters, Alliene H. Nicholson and Anna Louise Curry. She was a retiree of the Mobile County Courthouse. She was a lifelong member of the Mount Zion Primitive Baptist Church, where she was a devoted deaconess, a former trustee and usher. She leaves to cherish her memory, a loving and devoted family, two daughters, Joyce Lee and Debra Singleton. Three sons, George Jr. (Madeline), Melvin and Donald Beard, all of Mobile, Alabama. Thirteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, two sisters, Erma H. Bowers and Elouise H. Williams, three sisters-in-law, Mildred and Rose Hendrix and Patricia Beard, one brother-in-law, Henry Williams, Sr. A host of caring and loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and dedicated church family. Her remains will lie in state at Small's Mortuary on Friday, October 16, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and after 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church, 867 Baltimore Street, until the 11:00 a.m. funeral hour. Interment will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery, Dauphin Island Parkway. Dignified and professional services entrusted to Small's Mortuary, 950 S. Broad Street, Mobile, Alabama.
