Obituary for Charles Johnson

Mr. Charles L. Johnson, born December 18, 1927, a native of Gosport, AL and a longtime resident of Mobile, AL, died at his home on Sunday, December 6, 2009 at the age of 81. He was preceded in death by his parents, lem and Willie Mae Hollins Johnson, Brother, Arthur James Johnson, and sister, Claudia Johnson Smothers. Mr. Johnson was a retired Drywall Contractor after more than 50 years of service; he was a faithful Fifty Year Plus member of Mr. Zion Baptist Church were he served on the Usher Board, Sunday School Member, past Chairman of the Deacon Board, a past trustee, and was serving as Deacon-Emeritus. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Ella Golden Johnson; one daughter, Marilyn Johnson Warner of Mobile, AL; one son, Gary (Carmen) Johnson of Atlanta, GA; two brothers, Amos (Barbara) Johnson, of Eight Mile, AL, and Dethroy Johnson of Mobile, AL; four sisters, Eloise Frazier of Mobile, AL, Leanna (Joseph) Thomas of Akron, OH, Resta B. Kiser and Rosa (James) Maclin both of Union City, GA; a loving mother-in-law Willie Mae Dean Golden of Mobile, AL; seven grandchildren DeMet, Gary, Aftan, Charles, Tobias, Island Marie and Chances; two brother-in-laws, Theodore (Lucile) Golden of Mobile, AL, and Edward (Maxine) Golden of Atlanta, GA; two sister-in-laws, Violet (Albert) Lowery of Mobile, AL, and Ollye (James) Davis of Mableton, GA; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends. Viewing will be held Thursday, December 10, 2009 at Small's Mortuary from 1:00pm until 6:00pm and Friday, December 11, 2009 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1012 Adams Street, Mobile, AL after 10:00am. The family will receive visitors from 11:00am until the 12:00pm, followed by the Homegoing Services, Pastor, Montgomery Portis, Jr., officiating funeral hour. Interment will follow in the Pine Crest Cemetery, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway. Dignified and professional services entrusted to Small's Mortuary, 950 South Broad Street, Mobile, AL
