Obituary for Christine Williams

Mrs. Christine Elizabeth Williams, lovingly and affectionately known as "Boots", quietly passed to her heavenly reward on Friday, October 28, 2016, while at her residence in Bromley, Alabama. Boots was born and raised in Bromley, Alabama where she resided for more than 91 years. She was born to Christine and Nathaniel Williams on February 23, 1925. The daughter of a professional fisherman, Boots always had an interest in fishing and this was evident throughout her life. Her favorite pastimes included caring for her beloved St. John Catholic Church facility and being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Over the years Boots became the mother of the community. She made everyone who came to her home feel like family. Boots worked as a house cleaner for many years, where she utilized her ability to care for others as she provided for her family. Boots accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and she was a long time member of St. John Catholic Church in Bromley, Alabama. She faithfully cared for the small community church by keeping it clean up until her passing. She washed and ironed the church linens weekly and on her trips to visit family in Chicago she would often lament that she would like to visit longer but she had to get back to Alabama so she could clean the church. Boots traveled often as a young woman. She lived in both New York and Chicago before settling back in Bromley in the home she and her father built with their own hands. She was a leader in the community and she made sure to enrich the lives of her descendants by sharing her love for the church, cooking, fishing and having fun. Boots was married to Vernon Williams who preceded her in death. Family was always tantamount in importance to Boots. Memorable moments spent with her children, grandchildren, relatives, and people throughout the community were the framework of her life. She was a pillar of strength and she worked tirelessly, and through it all she LOVED in a way that inspires the best in us. Boots was preceded in passing by her parents, Nathaniel and Christine Williams and sister, Olivia Williams, all of Bay Minette, Alabama; her brother Nathaniel Williams II, of Atlanta, Georgia; one nephew, Nathaniel Williams III and one niece, Bernadette “Bonnie” Williams also of Bay Minette, Alabama; and her great-granddaughter, Adriana (Callie) Coleman. She is survived by her five children: Dorothy (Tyrone) Smiley, Vernon (Jeanette) Williams, Michelle Williams, Christopher Williams and Todd (Lee) Williams.
