Obituary for Claude Powe Jr.

Mr. Claude Powe, Jr. was born in Waynesboro, Mississippi on January 31, 1945 to the union of Claude E. Powe and Nettie Mae Powe. He was a long time resident of Mobile, Alabama and departed this life on Saturday, March 27, 2010. He confessed Faith in Christ at an early age and at the time of his death was a faithful member of the Greater Union Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and various other capacities in the church. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Loretta Young Powe, sisters Dorothy Powe and Claretha Fabunmi and daughter-in-law, Phantasia Lee Powe. He leaves to cherish his memory two loving sons¸ Terrence J. Powe (Valdez) and Claude J. Powe of Mobile, Alabama; three devoted sisters, Yvonne Nettles, Marjorie Thompson (Sidney) and Mary E. Powe; four grandchildren, Natalie M. Powe, Mallory E. Powe, Jordan E. Powe and Jenna E. Powe; three brothers-in-law, James Young, Jr. (Gloria), Freddie Young, and Arthur Young (Loretta); two sisters-in-law, Cynthia Henley (James) of Dayton, Ohio and Gloria Kidd (Wayne) of Indianapolis, Indiana; five nephews, Michael Nettles of Memphis, Tennessee, Joseph Nettles of Houston, Texas, Darryl Powe, Reginald Powe and Christopher Powe, all of Mobile, Alabama; six nieces, Deborah Hurst (Wendell), Kate Cotten, Charlotte Thompson, Charlene Thompson, all of Mobile, Alabama, Carolyn Thompson of Laurel, Maryland, and Frances Palmer of Dallas Texas. He received Bachelor degrees from Alabama State University in Biology and Xavier University of Louisiana in Pharmacy. He recently retired from Mobile Mental Health Center (AltaPointe) where he had been employed as a pharmacist for 35 years. He was also employed part-time as a staff pharmacist at Springhill Memorial Hospital. His remains will lie in state at Small's Mortuary on Friday, April 2, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 3, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral hour at the Sunlight District Auditorium, 807 Seminary Street, Prichard, AL.
