Obituary for DEACON BURDEN

Deacon Hobson Burden, a native of Tuscaloosa, AL, a long-time resident of Boston, MA and a short-time resident of Mobile, AL made a transition to his heavenly home on Sunday, October 24, 2010 at Mobile Infirmary after a long illness. Deacon Burden confessed Christ and began a great work at the Timothy Baptist Church, Boston, MA under the leadership of Pastor Dennis Grace as a Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent and finally becoming a Deacon. After retiring and moving to Mobile, AL Deacon Burden joined the Greater Nazaree Baptist Church where he continued his work for the master as a Deacon, President of the Male Chorus and being available wherever as needed. Deacon Burden was preceded in death by his father, Hobson Burden, Sr., Mother, Annie White, one brother, Rufus Burden, and one sister, Alice Collins. He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Bessie Burden, one sister, Kattie Bell of Michigan, a special sister-in-law, Alberta Hall, Boston, MA, devoted nephew, Matthew Hall, Boston, MA, special friends, Kory Lawson and Portia Moore, devoted god-child, Faye Warren, Los Angeles, CA, devoted neighbors, Iletha Moore, Kenneth and Lisa Lawson, Jean Reugra, Jean Sylvester, Mobile, AL, a devoted friend of 45 years, Shirley Grant of Mt. Vernon, AL and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and other friends. A heart-felt thanks to all of the doctors and nursing staff at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center. Visitations will be held at the Greater Nazaree Baptist Church, 501 Joseph Blair Street, Mobile, AL on Thursday, October 28, 2010 from 9:30 a.m. until the 11:30 a.m. funeral hour with the Rev. James A. Parrish, Jr., Officiating. Interment will be in the National Cemetery in Boston, MA.
