Obituary for Dwight L. Wasp

Dwight L. Wasp, born December 5, 1954 to the late Mr. and Mrs. John Lionell (Ruth) Wasp of Point Clear, Alabama. Dwight transitioned from this life to life eternal on January 8, 2016.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Lionell, Jr., two sisters, Celia Wasp and Santyonia Stephenson, and a daughter Catina Johnson.

He confessed Christ at an early age and united with Antioch Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend N.J. Matthews.

Dwight was a veteran of the United States Army where he served 18 years. He received various wards and decorations, including: Drill Sergeant Badge, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Expert Infantryman Badge, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Parachutist Badge, Marksman Badge with M15 Rifle Bar and the Army Achievement Medal.

Dwight leaves to cherish his memory, his fiance, Catina Douglas of Huntsville, Alabama; two sons, Michael (Nilsa) Tolbert of Vicenca, Italy and Marlon Wasp of Fayetteville, North Carolina; six step children; three grandchildren; two brothers, William (Margaret) Wasp of Bolingbrook, Illinois and Martin Wasp of Point Clear, Alabama; two sisters, Mary Bilbo of Point Clear, Alabama and Trudia (Richard) Hopkins of Daphne, Alabama, two aunts, Rose Agee of Point Clear, Alabama and Irma (Perry) Lewis of Mobile, AL; four uncles, Bernell (Izola) Wasp, Alfonse Wasp, and Thomas Wasp of Point Clear, Alabama and Benjamin Agee of Carol Stream, Illinois; a goddaughter, Kaylin Hopkins; and a host of nieces (Carla Jackson), nephews, cousins and friends.
Mr. Wasps' remains will lie in state on Friday, January 15, 2016 from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Small's Mortuary, Daphne. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral hour at the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, (Old Marlow Road) Point Clear, AL. Interment will follow on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Spanish Fort, AL 36527.
