Mrs. Ellen Williams Blunt – a native of Blackshear, Alabama and a long-term resident of Mobile, Alabama, departed this life on Sunday, June 3, 2018, after a lengthy illness in her home. She was a blessed centenarian, born on November 28, 1915, who lived to be 102 years old.

Her parents, the late Joseph “Joe” Davis and Eliza Jane Davis, preceded Ellen in death and she was the last survivor of her siblings, William “Bill” Davis and Joseph Davis, II. Mrs. Blunt also survived her late husband, Theodore O. Blunt, and her late grandson (Morris S. Altice).

She leaves to cherish her memories the following children: She leaves two sons, Silas (Bertha, deceased) Morgan and Larry Lorenzo Williams. She leaves two daughters, Ernestine (Kossieth, deceased) McCaskill and Shirley (Horace) Altice. She leaves Grandchildren, Jennifer (Aulmon) Hayles; Anthony (Anita) McCaskill; Vanessa (Ricky) Manear; Rahammed Morgan; Horace S. Altice, II; Bridgette Altice; and Kirsten Altice Gates. She leaves Great Grandchildren, Jordan Jennifer Hayles; Kyle McCaskill; Morgan McCaskill; Jasmine Steadman; Jeremy Steadman; Bianca Altice; Morris M. Altice; Tristan Altice; Jared Bivens; Cole Alexander Gates; Tiffany (Archie) Pierce III; Jessica Massey; and Olivia Anderson. She leaves Great-Great Grandchildren, Adarion Ray; Chase Powe; and Archie Pierce IV. Mrs. Blunt leaves a host of other local relatives; Nieces: Mrs. Margaret (Lavelle) Smith, Erika Agnew, Angela Agnew, Gabrielle Agnew, Priscilla Agnew, Angel Agnew, Tulani Agnew; Nephews: Percy Agnew; Glynn (Annette) Agnew; Loveless “Kirk” (Vivian) Agnew; Antonne (Barbara) Agnew; Curtis Agnew, and Lorenzo Agnew; Cousins: Helen (John, deceased) Forward, and Andrew “Drew” Forward. She leaves a host of other relatives across generations (Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins), friends, church members, and caregivers that are too numerous to list but who are too important to not acknowledge. Thank you!

Mrs. Blunt was a very loving and kind-hearted woman who praised and loved the Lord, as a faithful member of the Rehoboth Missionary Baptist Church. She was graciously bestowed the honor as “Mother of the Church”. In 2008, the church honored her for faithfulness, endurance, and perseverance of exemplifying “the Fruit of the Spirit”. In 2010, the church presented her with a certificate of appreciation for faithfulness, dedication, and service. In 2017, she received the “Trailblazer Award” in appreciation for 20 years of loyal and dedicated service to her church. Lastly, Mrs. Blunt was a storyteller of fables and folk tales that transcended generations in her family. Her tales will live on in our memories and our hearts.

Her remains will lie in state on Monday, June 11, 2018, from 1pm-8pm at Smalls Mortuary, Mobile, AL. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 beginning at 9am. The family visitation will be held from 10am until the 11am “Celebration Of Life” service in Small’s Mortuary Chapel, 950 S. Broad St., Mobile, AL. Pastor Gregory West (Rehoboth Missionary Baptist Church) officiating.

Interment will follow in the Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 8691 Old Pascagoula Rd. Theodore, AL.
