Obituary for Ernestine Q Overstreet

Ernestine Quivers Overstreet transitioned into eternity on December 17, 2015. She was born on July 22, 1942 in Mobile, AL to the parentage of the late Stephen and Elizabeth Quivers. Ernestine accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at Stone Street Baptist Church. She later taught Sunday school and was very active as a missionary among many other church organizations. At Ebenezer Baptist Church, she was a member of the Women’s Ministry, Founder of the Breakfast Ministry and Fun Day. Learning was highly valued in the Quivers family where she was educated in Mobile Public Schools System. She attended Caldwell Elementary, Dunbar Junior High, a 1961 graduate of Central High School and a graduate of Alabama State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Ernestine loved educating others so that they may succeed and flourish in their chosen careers. Her experience as a Elementary School Teacher at Bessie C. Fonville and Mertz Elementary was awesome until she became ill and could no longer enjoy her lifelong desire as a teacher.
Ernestine was married to her college sweetheart, the Rev. Rudolph Overstreet for fifty one years and from this union two daughters were born, Valarie O. Carter and Natasha Overstreet. She was a strong believer in family, whether by blood or family of the heart. She supported them at every opportunity, by her physical appearance, financial assistance and words of wisdom.
Ernestine was predeceased by four sisters, Thomasine Woodson, Sadie Davis, Katherine Siggers and Rose Marie Craig, several aunts and uncles.
She leaves to mourn, her husband, Rev. Rudolph Overstreet; children, Valerie O. Carter and Natasha Overstreet; one granddaughter, Chquana (Bennie) Johnson; one grandson, Master Rudolph Overstreet; three great grandchildren, Zion Overstreet, Jakob and Caleb Johnson; four sisters, Yvonne (Rev. James) Powell, Mary (Fred) Stevenson, Augustine Quivers (her twins) and Frenzetta Quivers; two godchildren, Tyana Dinkins and Tyesha Liggins; several nieces, nephews, great friends, neighbors and church family.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 26, 2015 from 9am until the 11am funeral hour at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 5051 Ebenezer Dr. Mobile, AL. Interment will follow in Ebenezer Church Cemetery, Mobile, AL.
