Obituary for Finest Stewart Nickerson

Mrs. Finest Stewart Nickerson was born March 27, 1935, to the union of Mr. General (Mattie Mae) Stewart in Pine Hill , AL . She departed this life on Friday, March 29, 2013. She was a resident of Mobile for over 70 years. Baptized at Mt. Zion Baptist Church during her youth, God played a central role in her life. She attended Caldwell Elementary and Dunbar High School where she was a majorette. Though not schooled in the subject, she was uncanny in her business acumen. For the past 27 years she was the sole proprietor of Mother Finest Convenience Store at the corner of Houston and Virginia streets. She was very passionate about and thoroughly enjoyed running her business. Above all, she strove to be the best mother and grandmother she could be. ?Mother Finest? was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Nickerson, three sisters: Harriet Mixon, Beatrice Mallory, and Pearlie Richardson. Five brothers: Dan Stewart, Jerry Stewart, Luke Stewart, Joseph Stewart (Springfield, IL), and General Stewart JR. She leaves to cherish her memories four devoted children; Grover (Alice) Stewart, Renee Stewart, Dr. Ron (Bernadette) Stewart of Buffalo, NY, and Ann Williams. Two sisters: Ann Stewart, Earline Blair, two brothers; George (Dorothy) Stewart, Willie (Patricia) Stewart; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Three sisters-in-law: Dorothy Stewart, Mae-Douglas Stewart, Blondina Stewart, and Viola Smith of Birmingham, AL. One brother-in-law: Samuel Mixon Sr. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Her remains will lie in state on Friday, April 5, 2013 at Small's Mortuary from 1:00pm until 8:00pm. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013 from 10 am until the 12noon funeral hour at Revelation Missionary Baptist Church, 1711 Taylor Lane Mobile, AL, 36605. Interment will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery, Mobile, AL. DIGNIFIED AND PROFESSIONAL SERVICES ENTRUSTED TO SMALL'S MORTUARY, 950 S. BROAD STREET, MOBILE, AL.
