Obituary for GEORGE BLAKELY

George Henry Blakely, 72, of Prichard, AL, exchanged his earthly life for God’s promise of eternity on Saturday, December 05, 2015 at his home. He was born August 28, 1943 in Prichard, AL.

He was educated in the Mobile Public School system. He went on to serve his country proudly and honorably as a Sargent in the United States Air Force. George began his career working with Lockheed Aircraft Corporation as Aircraft Mechanic in Atlanta, GA. He eventually returned home and finished his career at Peterbilt Motors Company as a diesel mechanic. He retired from Peterbilt/Rush after over 30 years of service.

George loved God, his family, fishing and all things mechanical.

His love for God was shown in his daily walk, he did not work in the church but did the work of the church, He cherished his family and they shared his passion for fishing enjoying many hours of love and togetherness.

George was a devoted and dedicated member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a deacon, as a Sunday school teacher, and active member of NBC, and in the gospel and male chorus.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Annie Taylor Blakely, three brothers, Wilbert, Arthur and Johnny Blakely and two grandchildren, McKenley and McKenna Blakely.

He leaves to cherish his memory , the love of his life, his wife of 47 years, Evelyn Dixon Blakely, three caring children Kimberlyn (Kenneth) Galloway, Mobile, AL; Charles Bernard (Lacresha) and Kenneth Lamont (Tiffany), Prichard, AL ; one sister, Ann Lewis (Otis) of Dayton, OH; three brothers; Claudell, Prichard, AL; Samuel (Sandra), Ecletic, AL, Richard (Antoinette),Mobile, AL: one brother-in-law, Joseph Dixon; Prichard, AL six sisters-in-law; Mertha (Wesley) Akins, Orlando, FL; Gloria Amison, Detroit, MI; Clotilda Blakely, Mobile, AL; Jeanette Blakely, Aurora, CO; Jonella Brown, Chicago, IL; and Hannah Dixon, Prichard, AL.; Ann Dixon, Mobile, AL; Four special aunts; Vivian Taylor, Cincinnati, OH; Betty Taylor, Lufkin, TX; Ella Blakely, Buckatunna, MS; Gladys Blakely; Hialeah, FL; one uncle, Robert Gordon, Prichard, AL; and a devoted mother-in-law, Eula Mae Dixon of Prichard, AL;six grandchildren, Kenneth Galloway, Jamie, Kennedy, McKenzie, Gabriella, and Katara; two great grandchildren Jaeden and Inori and a host of other relatives and friends.
