Harriett Pettaway  Moultrie
Harriett Pettaway Moultrie, a native of Autauga County Alabama and a resident of mobile County for over 60 years, departed this life at the age of 93, on June 23, 2018 at Providence Hospital, Covenant Care.

Mrs. Moultrie was born on October 21, 1924, to the union of Wilson and Annie Palmer Pettaway. She was educated in the Autauga County Public School System, where her family and friends affectionately knew her as “Baby Hadd.”She accepted Christ at an early age and joined St. Matthews Baptist Church. After moving to Mobile County, Alabama she joined Ruth Chapel AME Church where she was a devoted and faithful member over 60 years. She served in different capacities including the Missionary Board and Pastor’s Aid board. Most recently she served as The Mother of The Church. She thoroughly enjoyed attending church and reading her Bible. She had a special area in church where she enjoyed worshiping.

Mrs. Moultrie, met Isaac Moultrie at an early age and they married December 9, 1939. During their marriage ten children were born. They were together over 50 years until he passed. She had an extraordinary commitment to family. She enjoyed and looked forward to family gatherings and her Birthday Celebrations. At her 90th Birthday Celebration, 4 generations of offsprings attended. She was elated and overwhelmed with joy and commented “look at all my children and grand children.”


Mrs. Moultrie was preceded in death by her parents,Wilson and Annie Pettaway; husband, Isaac Moultrie, Sr; three children, Isaac Moultrie Jr, Harriet Celauis, and Carolyn Autry; three brothers, Wilbert, Nelson, and Freeman Pettaway; three sisters, Jessie Chappell, Mattie Lamar and Annie Mae Gardner.

Moultrie, Felecia (Kendall) Gunn, of Mobile, Al; two stepchildren, Sam (Doris Moultrie) and Brenda Williams, of Birmingham, Al; one brother
John Pettaway, of Selma, Alabama; one sister-in-law, Martha Pettaway,
of Pensacola, FL; thirty eight grandchildren, seventy eight great grandchildren, eighteen great great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
