Obituary for Hattie B. Jones

Hattie B.  Jones
Hattie J. Jones was baptized and received Christ at an early age. She was a lifelong resident of Saraland, Alabama. Upon graduating from Mobile County Training School in 1965, she moved to New York City for numerous years. After returning home to Saraland in 1979, she reunited her membership at Mt. Olive Baptist Church and later became a member of New Pilgrim Baptist Church. There, she worked in any capacity needed. She was president of the Usher Board for 30 years. She served as Intermediate Sunday School and VBS teacher. She was a faithful member of the Mobile County Ushers and Nurses Aide Calendar, where she once served as Corresponding Secretary.
She was affectionately known as “Teen” to family and friends, and “Triple J” to her church family.
Hattie transitioned to her heavenly home on Friday, June 22, 2018, at Covenant Care in Mobile, AL. She was surrounded by her daughter and other family. She was born September 7, 1947, in Saraland, Alabama. She was the eighth child of Ed and Lottie Johnson Sr.
She was preceded in death by her parents; oldest sister, Lelia M. Horn, one brother, Alvin Johnson, her former husband and father of their daughter, Tommie Lee Jackson of Mt. Vernon, AL, and her husband, James Jones.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories: her daughter, Yves C. Jackson of Saraland, AL; four brothers, Ed Jr. of Mobile, AL, Jessie (Ora) of Huntsville, AL, Wilson (Betty) of Axis, AL, and Altonio (Sonja) of Mobile, AL,; six sisters, Martha Nicholas of Axis, AL, Mary (Herman) Jackson of Atlanta, GA, Hartense Young, Anna Sullivan of Saraland, AL, Theresa (James) Brown of Creola, AL, and Eartha (Keith) Daniels of Eight Mile, AL; one sister-in-law, Loretta Johnson of Saraland, AL; one daughter-in-law, Doris (Arthur - deceased) Jones of Tampa, FL; goddaughter, Jasmine Brown; godsons, Avery Brown, Terrence Crook, and Jerian Brown; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and a very devoted sister-in-law, Betty Johnson.


Her remains will lie in state 1-8pm Friday, June 29, 2018 at Small’s Mortuary, Mobile. A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2018 from 9am until the 11am funeral hour at Cedar Street Missionary Baptist Church, 541 Cedar Street, Saraland, AL. Interment will follow in the Bailey Cemetery, Saraland, AL.
